DISTRICT 1

GIRLS

Maclay was suffocatingly dominant in the district 1 girls meet. Winning 10 of 12 events, Maclay rolled to a win by over 70 points.

They were led by a trio of double winners. Eighth-grader Ezi Emenike went back-to-back early on, leading off the winning 200 medley and then winning the 200 free in the very next event. Not finished with the impressive doubles, Emenike won back-to-back events again later on, leading off the 200 free relay and then swimming to a win in the 100 back.

Freshman Bay Hanson took the 100 fly and 500 free for Maclay, and senior Caty Hansen won the 50 and 100 frees to help power the team to victory.

On the boys side, Maclay won the first three events to jump out to a lead and rolled to the title from there. Freshman Martin Jilek pulled the same 200 medley relay/200 free combo that Emenike did on the girls side, winning both races.

In the next event, the 200 IM, Rafi Chambasian took the title for Maclay. Jilek and Chambasian would make up the back half of Maclay’s winning 200 free relay later on in the meet.

In addition to Jilek, multiple freshmen pulled in event titles. Freshman Jeff Sober of Rocky Bayou nabbed dual titles, winning the 100 fly and 500 free in a close combo late in the meet.

Also doubling up was Florida High senior Thomas Cook, who swept the 50 and 100 frees.

DISTRICT 2

The Bolles School tore through district 2, winning all 12 races en route to a crushing team title. Equally impressive: 10 different swimmers won the 10 individual events, and Bolles swept at least the top 3 spots in all of them.

The 200 medley relay already hit an All-American consideration time of 1:48.27. That team included 100 back winner Abi Wilder, 100 breast winner Olga Lapteva, 100 fly winner Nata Gakharia Mgebrishvi and 50 free winner Kasey Schmidt.

Schmidt swam on all three winning relays, leading off the 200 and 400 free squads.

The Bolles boys were equally dominating, sweeping the top 4 spots in every swimming event except the 100 breast, where they went 1-2-3.

Andy Song An and Tyler Rice each won twice individually. Coming off the championship 200 medley relay, Song An won the 200 free right after, then came back to win the 100 back later on. Rice took the 50 free and 100 free for Bolles.

Song An was on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays, while Rice swam on the 200 and 400 free teams. Andrea Vergani swam all four relays for Bolles, anchoring the medley and leading off both free relays.

DISTRICT 3

GIRLS

1. PK Yonge – 505
2. Trinity Catholic – 296
3. Oak Hall – 277
4. St. Francis – 209

Abby Austin won twice and PK Yonge crushed the field for the girls district 3 title. Austin took home wins in the 50 free and 100 breast, plus came right off the latter win to anchor the championship 400 free relay.

Also winning for the team champs were diver Fondren DeLoach, freshman Annette Herring (100 fly) and junior Kahra Williams (500 free). Austin, Herring and Williams combined with Ana Cris Barrientos to win the 400 free relay.

Oak Hall senior Lindsey Trematerra won a pair of events. She took the 200 and 100 frees, beating PK Yonge’s Williams in the 200 by two seconds and beating the 100 field by six full seconds.

Freshman Isaac Etherton led the PK Yonge boys to their own runaway title. He won the 100 fly and 500 free in what’s a pretty tough high school double, and also swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Also winning for PK Yonge: Quinn Whitaker (50 free) and Andrew Thomas (100 back), both sophomores.

Trinity Catholic had a great meet at the top, and were also led by a freshman. Jimmy Tarquin won twice individually, taking the 200 IM and 100 breast. His senior teammate Shane Intihar won the 200 free right before his 200 IM to help Trinity take back-to-back events early on.
