Here’s our day 2 up/down’s from the 2012 Women’s NCAA Swimming Championship.
These updowns are a good indicator for coaches whether or not their swimmers made the final they were supposed to and improved their seeding without taking too much of specific times (which can be influenced by a swimmer’s comfort level with their seed) into account.
“Up” is an entry in an A final. “Down” is an entry in a B-Final.
As we saw in the day 2 prelims recap, the Georgia Bulldogs did much better on the 2nd day than they did on the first. They picked up an A-finalist, which is good for a bare-minimum of 11 pints versus seed. Cal, meanwhile, gave up 2 A-finalists for 6 B-finalists, which could work out for them or not.
A&M again moved up significantly, with 2 extra A-Finalists, as did Texas by trading a B for an A (though it was Laura Sogar in the 100 breast, so an expected trade-up).
Keep in mind that there’s an 800 free relay yet to come as well, which is not swum in prelims and is instead done as a timed final.

How come there’s no event by event analysis like yesterday’s prelims? Georgia finally is looking up, disappointing margalis didn’t make top 8 she shoulda been top 5ish tonight. Based of beisels time, assuming she was just relaxing this morning, she’s gunna go crazy fast. What I find most interesting is how all three ladies (beisel, levering, and hosszu) all went 358’s on their own with virtually no competition, and so tonight when theyre all battling it out next to one another I think they will push each other to greatness. Beisel is also the only one not doing the relay before out of those 3, which could possibly give her the edge.
