20 Hoosiers Earn Scholar All-America Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Twenty Indiana University swimmers and divers were honored as Scholar All-Americans for the 2014-15 season, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced this week.

 

Allie Day, Brooklynn Snodgrass, Cynthia Pammett, Dorina Szekeres, Grace Vertigans, Marie Chamberlain and Samantha Lisy earned first-team honors, while Rachel Matsumura was an honorable mention honoree.

For the men, Ali Khalafalla, Blake Pieroni, Jackson Miller, Max Irwin, Michael Hixon, Sam Lorentz and Steve Schmuhl were first team honorees, with Cody Coldren, Cody Taylor, Grayson Smith, Levi Brock and Marijn van Zundert earning honorable mention accolades.

 

To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

 

Snodgrass, Vertigans, Pieroni, Hixon and Schmuhl all earned first-team All-America honors at the 2015 NCAA Championships.  In his freshman season, Pieroni set new school records in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay. Hixon added his name to the IU record book in the 1-meter springboard.

 

Vertigans and Snodgrass were part of the 400 and 800 freestyle relays that set new Indiana records during the season.

 

Snodgrass won Big Ten titles in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 800 free relays, with Hixon winning a Big Ten title on the 1-meter springboard.

 

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the oldest organization of college coaches in America -is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
