Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Jenna Watson has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the SMU Mustangs beginning in the fall of 2020. Watson shared the news by stating, “I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Southern Methodist University! I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teachers and friends for their support in making this decision! I can’t wait to be a Mustang! #PonyUp”.
In December, Watson competed at the Winter Junior National Championships – West. She swam the 100 and 200 breast, the 200 and 400 IM, and she participated on four relays with her team. Watson achieved personal best times in both breast events. Her 200 breast time of 2:14.71 earned her the 6th place spot on the podium and a 2019 Summer Juniors cut.
As a junior at Flower Mound High School, Watson swam in finals for two individual races as well as two relays. She earned the bronze medal in the 100 breast and silver in the 200 free relay, where she swam the second leg in a time of 23.47. She also placed 7th in the 200 IM and she swam the breast leg on her team’s medley relay, which earned 4th.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 breast – 2:14.71
- 100 breast – 1:03.13
- 200 IM – 2:02.46
- 200 back – 2:02.66
When she joins during the 2020-2021 season, Watson will be the team’s fourth fastest 200 backstroker behind Gabriella Grobler, Kiley Vandevier, and Felicity Passon, who will all be seniors. She will be the third fastest 200 IMer behind rising senior Andrea Podmanikova and Grobler. She will have more chances to compete alongside Podmanikova, as she will be seeded 2nd behind her in the 200 breast and 3rd behind her and Maria Fernanda Jimenez Peon in the 100.
Watson will be joining fellow breaststroker Maxine Parkinson and 2019 Futures finalist Nicole Gomez as a member of the class of 2024.
