FIU Clinches 2016 C-USA Championship Title For Yet Another Year

2016 CONFERENCE USA – WOMEN

1650 Free

  1. Kyna Pereira 16:24.36
  2. Anna Lynch 16:37.21
  3. Madison Pulfer 16:40.10

FIU sophomore and 2015 4th pace finisher Pereira dominated this years 1650 free, finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of the field, touching in a NCAA ‘B-cut’ and new school record. Lynch and Pulfer of Marshall helped capture valuable points for their team in this event, as they had 6 swimmers in the top 13.

200 Back

  1. Rebekah Bradley 1:56.45
  2. Alicia Caldwell 1:56.89
  3. Kiley Beall 1:58.52

Freshman of North Texas; Bradley, made an impact at her first collegiate conference championships, after placing 2nd in the 100 back, she captured the victory in the 200 back (1:56.45), when she out touched Rice’s Caldwell, who finished in 1:56.89.

100 Free

  1. Naomi Ruele 49.30
  2. Letizia Bertelli 49.89
  3. Agi Bucz 50.32

FIU showed their strength in the sprint field and posted a 1-2 sweep in the 100 free, when freshman Ruele and sophomore Bertelli finished in NCAA ‘B-cut’ times of 49.30 and 49.89 respectively. Last years champion Bucz, was off of her 2015 championship time of 49.01, and settled for a 3rd place finish this year.

200 Breast

  1. Marie-Claire Schillinger 2:11.99
  2. Claudia Kitching 2:13.18
  3. Chase Harris 2:16.01

More NCAA ‘B-cuts’ were posted in the 200 breast, when freshman of Rice; Schillinger and sophomore of North Texas; Kitching, clocked in way ahead of the field, touching the pads in 2:11.99 and 2:13.18 repectively.

200 Fly

  1. Valerie Inghels 1:58.49
  2. Chloe Parsemain 2:01.27
  3. Shir Wasserman 2:01.63

Last years winning time was 1:56.91, this year, 1st place finisher; Inghels of FIU, who finished 3rd at the 2015 championships, clocked in in 1:58.49. Almost 2 seconds later it was Marshall was a 2-3-4 sweep when teammate Caroline Wanner finished behind Parsemain and Wasserman in 2:01.78.

Platform Diving

  1. Becca Quesnel 299.80
  2. Megan Wolons 242.35
  3. Laura Coronado 221.95

Coming off of a victory on the 1m board, FIU’s Quesnel dominated the platform diving event to garner more first place points for FIU.

400 Free Relay

  1. FIU 3:20.10
  2. ODU 3:24.60
  3. Rice 3:24.70

Already more than 200 points ahead of 2nd place team Rice, the FIU team had no intentions of easing up for the final event. The A team of Bertelli (50.72), Marie Lauridsen (49.95), Pereira (50.29) and Ruele (49.14) dominated the 400 free relay, clocking in more than 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place finishers, Old Dominion University.
