14-Year Old JoJo Ramey Hits Olympic Trials Standard in 200 Back Time Trial

2019 Winter Junior Championships – East – Long Course Time Trials

  • December 10th, 2019
  • Georgia Tech, Atlanta, Georgia
  • 50m (LCM) Session
  • Results on Meet Mobile – “Long Course Time Trials”

A handful of new Olympic Trials qualifying times were set in the pre-meet long course time trial on Tuesday at the Georgia Tech pool. The day before the short course Winter Junior Championships – East began, swimmers took to the pool for a chance at long course racing as the Olympic Trials year approaches.

Among them was a first-ever Olympic Trials standard for 14-year old JoJo Ramey of the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers in Indiana. She swam a 2:13.34 in the 200 back, which cut more than 2 seconds off her previous lifetime best of 2:15.38 in that event. Her new time also easily clears the Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:14.69, which will make her one of the youngest competitors next summer in Omaha.

That swim also jumped her into 20th place all-time in the 13-14 age group in USA Swimming history.

In spite of that big time drop in long course, she wound up adding time in her only individual race so far of the Winter Junior Championships – East meet: the 500 free.

Other Olympic Trials Standards set in the Long Course Time Trial:

  • 17-year old Abby Arens from the Marlins of Raleigh improved her best times in both the 100 fly (1:00.47 to 1:00.37) and 200 IM (2:16.60 to 2:15.91). She already had Olympic Trials cuts in both races, so those swims will simply improve her seeds in Omaha. In the official competition, racing on Thursday, she would cut more than 2 seconds off her best time in the 200 yard IM to swim 1:56.48 and win the race.
  • 16-year old Letitia Sim from TNT Swimming dropped .45 seconds in the 200 breaststroke to swim 2:33.04. That dips her under the Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:33.29

The last paragraph where its mentioned she added time in the 500 is not necessary. Why write it? Makes the writer look bad, I think. Not impressed. And dont give us the “we just report the news as it happens” speech. Build the sport. The girl killed it. Leave it at that.

The real joke here is that Juicy believes that “build the sport” is the same as “rainbows and sunshines and butterflies all the time.” That’s what this sport did for 60 years before swimswam. We can see how far that took us and the problems that created.

Jojo and her dad both shared the article on social. Good thing they’re not as soft as you are. And, incidentally, you’ve now made this poor 14-year old girl the center of a debate over “facts” vs. “fluff” – which is probably way more annoying to her than anything in the article.
