13-Year-Old Wilson York Hits 2:06.3 200 Breast At Lakeside Ohio River Challenge

Lakeside swimmers were joined by a few clubs from the surrounding area at the annual Ohio River Challenge earlier this month in Louisville, and there were some noteworthy performances produced.

Highlighting the competition was 13-year-old Lakeside member Wilson York, who followed up a very strong showing at the Music City Invitational at the beginning of December with an even better performance one week later.

After recording a best time of 2:08.21 in the 200 breast and becoming the 25th-fastest 13-year-old the previous weekend, York put up a time of 2:06.33 in Louisville to become the fourth-fastest ever, less than a second shy of the #1 time.

The fastest 13-year-old ever in the U.S. is Joey Campagnola, who went 2:05.65 earlier this year.

York also clocked 1:56.17 in the 200 back to become the 44th-fastest 13-year-old in the U.S. and sixth this season, and he added other best times in the 50 free (23.02), 100 free (50.18), 200 free (1:50.34) and 500 free (5:03.57), plus he swam the 1650 free (17:38.09) and 400 IM (4:19.67) for the first time.

The other top performer of the meet was another Lakeside swimmer, Owen Durham, who edged out York in the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.61.

Durham, 14, had a massive drop in the event, coming in with a best time of 2:09.63, and now sits fourth in the boys’ 13-14 age group this season. It’s also likely he cracked the top 100 all-time—USA Swimming’s ranking cut off at 2:05.57 (Will Licon) in 95th.

Durham also clocked 59.45 in the 100 breast, ranking him 25th in the nation for 13-14s this season, and he added another noteworthy PB with a 4:11.90 showing in the 400 IM.

The top performer on the girls’ side was 15-year-old Lakeside member Ashley Kara, who swam to four individual wins and three personal best times in the 50 free (23.96), 500 free (5:11.31) and 200 back (2:05.14). Her 50 free showing ranks her 45th this season among 15-year-old girls.
