13-Year-Old Tristen Ulett of Dynamo Earns Her 2nd Olympic Trials Cut

Tristen Ulett continues to impress, as she added another event to her Olympic Trials schedule in the final weekend of eligible OT qualification.

At the Sizzlin Summer Invite**, hosted at the Georgia Tech pool, the 13-year-old from Dynamo torched a 1:02.96 to get the Trials cut in the 100 back, taking off six tenths from her previous lifetime best from the Atlanta Classic in May. Ulett already has an OT cut in the 100 fly, an event in which she holds the 13-14 NAG record in yards. She now has qualified for Trials in both the 100 back and 100 fly.

**Not to be confused with the Speedo Summer Sizzler Invitational in Tennessee, where Alex Walsh and teammates from the Nashville Aquatic Club wreaked havoc on the 400 free relay and 400 medley relay 13-14 NAG records this weekend.

Ulett swam two other events this weekend– the 200 IM and 100 free. She was 2:20.23 in the 200 IM finals, dropping a tenth from prelims. She went for the Trials cut again in a 200 IM time trial, this time coming much closer with a 2:18.91, though it was ultimately not quite fast enough to reach the mark of 2:18.69.

She only swam prelims of the 100 free, posting a 57.46 which was a new personal best by a few tenths. With her weekend over, here is where Ulett now stands in the 13-14 all-time rankings in LCM:

• 100 fly (24th)
• 100 back (25th)
• 100 free (t-58th)
• 200 IM (36th)

Ben Southern, a rising senior at Georgia Tech, was under the 100 fly OT cut. The 20-year-old swam a 54.38, under the mark of 54.79 needed to qualify for Omaha. Southern already has the cut with a 54.34 from 2014 Summer Nationals– he’s slated to swim both the 100 and 200 fly at Trials, which begin in just one week.
