1:01 100 Breaststroker Sophie Angus Commits to Northwestern

The Northwestern women have some top breaststroke talent on their hands, as they’ve added Connecticut-based breaststroker Sophie Angus to their recruiting class. Angus currently trains with Weston Swimming Inc. and is a senior at Weston High School. In the past year, she’s competed in high level meets such as the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Speedo Winter Junior Nationals, and Speedo Summer Junior Nationals.

In the yards portion of the 2015-16 season, Angus was a 2016 Connecticut state champion in the 100 breast. She also earned a gold medal as a part of Weston’s 200 medley relay. Angus then went on to finish 10th in the 100 breast and 17th in the 200 breast at the 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals during the long course season.

Angus’ Top Times:

  • 100 breast- 1:01.35
  • 200 breast- 2:14.03
  • 200 IM- 2:09.28
  • 50 free- 25.10
  • 100 free- 53.88

Angus should have an immediate impact for the Wildcats when she competes as a freshman at the Big Ten Championships. Her time in the 100 breast is already fast enough to have qualified for the championship final at 2016 Big Tens. Additionally, her 200 breast time is already fast enough to have scored in the B-final last season.
