1. Danas Rapsys had no special strategy but finally it was again a golden path.
“I had no special strategy, how to start, how to go at the end because I felt tired after the 400m free yesterday. I had to dig into my reserve for the last 50m. I focused only on myself, didn’t really see or care of the others.” Danas Rapsys grabbed his second gold today in the 200m freestyle after he won the double distance yesterday.
2. Arno Kamminga took his first European gold medal.
“Amazing, it was so close! It feels so good to be on top. Yesterday I won my first European medal and today I claimed my first gold so it’s been incredible two days. Though I’m a bit tired, this was my sixth race in two days, I’m waiting to have some calmer moments now.” The Dutch won the bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke yesterday and now holds the Dutch national records in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.
3. Max Litchfield didn’t want to complain but expects faster times in the future.
“It’s good. This is a good time at this stage of the year. I cannot complain, hopefully I will come out even stronger next time.” Great Britain’s Max Litchfield took the gold medal in the 400m IM.
4. Kira Toussaint was focused on the gold medal. And her plan worked.
“At the end I won an individual gold medal at a major championship! The plan was to achieve fast times yesterday and today the gold was in the focus. Considering where I was last year, it’s crazy to achieve all this.” It’s always good when a plan works. The Dutch swimmer grabbed the victory in the 100m backstroke.
5. It takes 24,56 seconds for Melanie Henique to set a new Championship Record.
“Just one word: amazing! Sorry but I have the relay in a few minutes.” And then she had to hurry up to get the relay train. France finished the race outside the medal places.
6. Marius Kusch adjusted some details and got it done in the 100m butterfly.
“Yesterday I controlled my races, I left some reserves and not swam on my top. I adjusted some technical details with my coach in order to win this title.” Marius Kusch broke a 10-year old German record. And won his first major international title.
7. Simona Quadarella could have swum a bit better.
“I wanted to improve my time but at the end I’m happy with the gold medal. I confirmed my status as European champion. This is was not the specific race I prepared for, still, I could have swum it a bit better. It’s all about the preparations to the Olympics.” The Italian took the title in the 800m freestyle. The 20-year-old is the reigning European LC champion in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle.
8. The first World Record of the competition went to: Russia.
“We have a team with the best specialists in each stroke. Still, you never know what can happen in this type of race – though today everything has happened as planned.” said Vlad Morozow after he and his teammates Kliment Kolesnikov, Arina Surkova and Maria Kameneva broke the WR in the 4x50m mixed medley.
I like this idea, getting comments from a bunch of swimmers in one article. Should do this for college meets as well
